There has been much talk of a summer book club, and through this post, I suppose I am officially signing myself away to the grasps of what is to come. I must admit I am not a book person. In my free time you will find me watching season after season of some cynical tv series on Netflix, but I've heard that reading is good, and I suppose a book club is a fabulous way to meet new people. I have been scouring the internet for the last 3 1/2 hours trying to find books that will be perfect for this club, and I have found two books that I think will be great to start off the summer. The book club officially starts on June 2nd, but I recommend you start hunting for these books ahead of time. I suggest checking out your local library.
The first book up for discussion will be Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King. The discussion post for this book will be posted on June 8th, and from there, the second book will be An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. I got a lot of requests to feature The Fault in Our Stars or Looking for Alaska, but one of my goals for this book club was to discuss books that the social realm hasn't quite touched yet. Plus I've already read both of those books! They're fabulous reads, and maybe I'll throw one of them in later on, but I was more interested in reading something new. For these reasons, An Abundance of Katherines will be the topic of discussion for week two in the book club.
These are the only two books that are solidified thus far for the book club, so I am in need of more suggestions! If you know of any great novels, please leave any suggestions in my ask box or in the comments!
This is such a good idea, I will def be involved --lowlifeeee.tumblr.com
ReplyDeleteI've read An Abundance of Katherines, not the best of John Green. You should perhaps add Eleanor and Parks? I'm still waiting for it to come in the mail, but I heard it had great reviews. I'll like to get involved in this book club also.

ReplyDeleteAnd what about Will Grayson, Will Grayson? (ok, we're trying to make it into a John Green book club, aren't we? Sorry!)

Yes, it doesn't matter whether you're consistent or not. I think that's the best part of having this book club online. Regardless of when I make the starter discussion post, it will always be up, and people will always be able to add their own opinions.
DeleteBook club? I would love to be a part!
ReplyDeleteWe'd love to have you!
Deletecan i be part? It looks like an awesome idea!
ReplyDeleteEveryone is welcome!!
DeleteI agree with the person who said An Abundance of Katherines was not the best of John Green, Will Grayon, Will Grayson was def a better one. -lowlifeeee.tumblr.com
ReplyDeleteI will get on them asap! Ahh, I'm anxious already, this sounds fun! :)
ReplyDeleteeep! i really dig "please ignore vera dietz!" and as for john green novels, almost everyone from far and in-between would favor "the fault in our stars" or "looking for alaska" over "an abundance of katherines." it is refreshing, to touch more on one of his novels that seems to get mulled over. if you want something a little eerie; but wonderful to read, you should check out a few of mary roach's novels.
