Book Club: Week Three

     "When Cameron Post's parents die suddenly in a car crash, her shocking first thought is relief. Relief they'll never know that, hours earlier, she had been kissing a girl. But that relief doesn't last, and Cam is soon forced to move in with her conservative aunt Ruth and her well-intentioned but hopelessly old-fashioned grandmother. She knows that from this point on, her life will forever be different."

Introduction

     I would first like to start off by saying that this book is wonderful. Go read it right now. The story follows a young girl who is coming to terms with her sexuality, spanning over many years in Cameron's life, which would make sense as this book is a whopping 470 pages long. Despite the almost neverending quality to this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Miseducation of Cameron Post is a story about discovering who you are, perfect for anyone in search of the courage to embrace their own sense of self.

     Now for those of you have read the book, what did you think? Do you strongly disagree with my love for this novel? I enjoyed this book almost start to finish. The 100 or so pages about Promise got a little boring, but otherwise I thought this was a fantastic book. I'm almost sad that I'd never heard of this book before. Like I just feel as though it deserves to be read and raved about. Maybe it's the strong homosexual aspect. Hahah, this wasn't a problem for me though. In fact, it mostly just made me want to make out with this girl. I can understand why some people would have a problem with it though. Was it a problem for you? What are your opinions on the topic on same sex relationships? Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I just want to make it clear that I 100% support homosexuality. My own light on this topic just made me hate certain characters in the book. Like Lydia, and Ruth as well.. though I know she was totally dying. Whatever. I just was baffled by the endless one-on-ones. Like I'm sure those types of places must have existed (and maybe they still do), but I just felt like they were trying to brainwash those poor kids. Obviously you can see that with Erin, OH AND MARK. Agh, Mark. Poor Mark. 

     I suppose I should get back to the book. Things I hated: the length of this book. Things I enjoyed: everything else. Please do excuse my rambling in the previous paragraph. I only finished this book about 20 minutes ago and my emotions are still a little raw. What did you think of The Miseducation of Cameron Post? What did you like and dislike?

Summary

     Overall I rate this book 5.7 tulips out of 6 tulips. I'm only taking points off for the length of this book; some of it definitely could have been edited out. Everything else was wonderful. I really felt like I watched the story while it was unfolding. It made me cry, laugh, and want to be a lesbian. I would definitely recommend this book.
